Who we are
Studio
A small practice that would rather do fewer things properly.
If you cannot draw the handle, you do not yet understand the door.
The founders
USER began with one house and a stubborn argument: that interiors, architecture and the objects inside them are one job, not three.
How the practice is put together
We are deliberately small. Every project has a partner on it from the survey to the snagging list, and the drawings are made by the people who will stand on the site.
What we take on
Private houses, small hotels and restaurants, and the occasional workplace for people who care what it feels like at four in the afternoon.
- One project per team at a time.
- Furniture and lighting drawn in-house.
- Makers we have used for years, named on the page.
How we behave
In practice
-
One project at a time
Each team runs a single job. It is a slower way to build a practice and a better way to build a room.
-
We name the makers
Every piece on this site says who made it. Nobody who touched the work is anonymous.
-
Drawn, not specified
If the right thing does not exist, we draw it. Most projects leave behind at least one piece that did not exist when they started.
-
We stay until the end
No handover at technical design. The people who drew it are the people who sign it off.
Starting something
Tell us about the room
Most projects begin with one photograph and a problem nobody has been able to solve. Send us both.
