How we work
Approach
- Where is it, and what is it now?
- What is wrong with it?
- Roughly when would you want to start?
- Is anyone else already working on it?
We take one project at a time and stay with it from the first measured survey to the day the last handle goes on. The same people draw the plan, choose the stone and sit with the joiner. Nothing is handed over halfway, because that is where rooms go wrong.
The order of it
How a project runs
-
01
Survey and brief
We measure the place ourselves, read whatever planning history it has, and write the brief back to you before anything is drawn. Half the projects change shape at this stage, which is the cheapest moment for it to happen.
-
02
Concept
One scheme, argued properly, rather than five to choose between. You get plans, a material board you can hold, and the reasoning in writing.
-
03
Developed design
Drawings a contractor can price without guessing: setting-out, lighting, joinery at 1:5, and a specification that names things rather than describing them.
-
04
Making
Furniture and joinery go to the makers at this point. We prototype anything that has not been built before, and we visit the workshop rather than approving photographs.
-
05
Site
We are on site every fortnight until it is finished, and we do the snagging list ourselves. The job ends when the last handle is on the door.
Disciplines
What we are hired for
- Interiors Rooms, materials, light and everything fixed to the walls.
- Architecture New build and heavy alteration, taken through planning and onto site.
- Furniture & lighting Pieces drawn for one room, then made properly enough to leave it.
- Art direction Identity, signage and the way a place photographs.
Starting something
Tell us about the room
Most projects begin with one photograph and a problem nobody has been able to solve. Send us both.
